About get2gether
We believe that people meeting each other should be easy, fun and accessible
At get2gether we believe that everyone has the right to love and friendship.
Our approach
We use a mentoring and coaching approach to encourage adults with disabilities to self-reflect, take responsibility for their own actions and to lead their own lives.
We run events, develop courses and create other opportunities that enable social connection and personal development.
What we do
We host events across Edinburgh and the Lothians. Our events programme is co-produced with our members and offers opportunities to try out a whole range of different venues and activities. From karaoke to ping pong, Pride marches to life drawing and everything in between!
We publish a monthly Community Magazine, which lets our members know about our events. This gets sent out by post or email to all our members, who can then come along to any event they choose.
Membership is free, you just need to sign up!
Our story
We started in 2013
- Since 2013
- Over 1,200 members
- SCIO SC043027
get2gether was created to respond to the social isolation regularly reported and experienced by people with disabilities who wanted opportunities to find friendship and love in adult relationships.
get2gether’s founding organisations were Garvald Edinburgh, The Thistle Foundation, Elcap and Freespace.
get2gether is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), charity number SC043027, which offers social and friendship opportunities to adults with disabilities in Edinburgh and the Lothians. You can find out more about us in our most recent annual report on the OSCR website.
Our aims
get2gether aims to
Three aims sit behind everything we do. Our members wrote the words underneath each one, to show what it looks like when it is working.
-
Reduce the social isolation of adults with disabilities
“I feel connected to other people. I choose who is in my life. I can build and maintain meaningful friendships and relationships.”
-
Increase the emotional resilience of adults with disabilities
“I value myself and work to resolve issues in my life. I am resourceful. Having a challenging experience doesn’t stop me from moving forward.”
-
Increase the self-determination of adults with disabilities
“I know what’s important to me and don’t have to justify it. I am willing to try things out and take risks. I make things happen to lead the life I want.”
get2gether is powered by our Ambassadors, Peer Mentors, our Steering Group, the office team and our Board. Meet everyone on our team page.
get2gether’s work is only possible because of the organisations that fund and support us — see who they are.
